2nd Annual Robot Beauty Pageant

First of all I would like to thank everyone involved in making this year's pageant so amazing; my wife Meghan, Roger from Circle 23 photography, Zoey, Roxy Epoxy, Jaime and Pirate Satellite TV, Mike and The Fez Ballroom crew, Jaime Eisenschmidt AKA Ivizia from Carnie Couture and her girl gang,"The Garnish Girls", my Robot gang (Jo, Dave, Shauana, Monkey, Danni, Courtney, Patrick, and ex-Robot Trevor), the robot contestants, Lucretia Renee from Dark Fusion Boutique, Faith And The Muse and Serpentine, Jen from The Hip Hound, and of course all of Robot's customers. These following pics are from Circle 23 photography.

So the night was easy to set up. We advertised the shit out of it on Facebook and The Mercury. I do a lot of parties at The Fez but I still had pre-party anxiety, you never know if a party would be a hit or a big fucking flop. Before the show, my wife Meghan and my manager Jo and I had yummy sushi at Masu .

I'm not much of a public speaker and Portland has some amazing MCs, but none with the connection or dedication to Robot like I have. Last year's announcing was nerve wracking, but this year I simply approached it with my typical ex-New Yorker blase attitude which is how I deal with stressful situations. Not only was I MC, but I was also in charge of music and had to do some fancy foootwork to hook up different music inputs while introducing the show. Throw in some crappy handwriting skills and my own minimal dyslexia and you could imagine how many errors I made announcing. But all in all, I nailed it. The costumes were amazing, I'm relieved I did not have to judge it! My judges are smart, good people who know how to have fun and they did. I knew Zach, last year's winner, would win again, but this year the competition was definitely more challenging. I particularly enjoyed transforming record player bot, who pleasantly came in third.

We were fortunate enough that our buddy Jaime had planned her hot girl posse "The Garnish Girls"to do a choreographed performance at Burning Man with fire. The Fez does not allow fire so they did the act with LED lights. It was a great intro to get everyone's attention for the main event.

Due to the fact I was being recorded, I chose not to drink too much so I could enunciate better, but when I get excited I get a bit outrageous anyway. I've been on TV a bunch and don't really give a shit about all of the hype around it, so my deliverance for the Pirate Satellite interview was really not charismatic, because I hate actors and acting, and for me to "act" is almost like I'm lying. I just like being me. I really appreciate them coming and Zoey interviewing us, but again, I don't care about impressing anyone so I think I came off a bit crass. Also, the show was not about me, but the amazingly creative contestants. I'm just glad everyone had fun.

Expect a video soon!
