We are the ROBOTS...
Jon Guac
I have been piercing since the early 90s and have recently retired. After starting at Venus Modern Body Arts in NYC. I was lucky enough to have been exposed to the teachings of Fakir Musafar and Gauntlet second-hand from senior piercers from both schools of thought. Myself and my mentor, Dave Rodriguez, blended the styles and went on to start our own shop called Shaman in Manhattan's Lower East Side... Click here for more.
Jo Case, aka Jobot
I've been involved in the body modification community since about 2000, and have been intrigued by piercing and such for as long as I can remember. I was given the opportunity to start an apprenticeship at ROBOT in July 2005. I love it. Working with Jon has been a delight. Our customers are awesome and our jewelery selection rocks! I've also been lucky to travel to Eugene to work at High Priestess Piercing and Philadelphia at Infinite Body Piercing.
Dave "Machete" Rodriguez
Dave is currently living in Hawaii and coming back to work as a guest. Email him for appointments at lobeywan@gmail.com.
Hailing from the steaming jungles of Borneo comes the Tribal Tattoo Ninja Warlord of NW Portland, Dave Rodriguez. A veteran piercer of 15+ years, Dave attended college at F.I.T. in NYC before his piercing career. He would often spend all night drawing tribal tattoos on himself with sharpie marker, waking then roommate, Jon Guac, to show off his current designs. He learned how to tattoo under the tutelage of Philip Millic in SF... Click here for more and to see Dave's tattoo work.
Shauna S., aka McGillicutty
Tattooing seemed to enter my life like a ninja kick to the face and nothing has been the same since. I had the great pleasure being offered an apprenticeship at Tower Tattoos in Fresno, California. While I worked towards my BA in Liberal Studies/Art at FSU, Tower was teaching me the finer points of tattooing. After receiving my degree at FSU I was given the opportunity to move to Florence, Italy to continue tattooing... Click here for more and to see Shauna's tattoo work.
Monkey, aka Gentry Howard
We at Robot are proud of our Monkey, for growing up and moving to a land of barbarians and uncivilized savagery - Washington, DC, and then promptly moving right back. Expect to find her working here in between her global missions as a super heroine to make the world a better place. Her years of devotion and goofy Japanime & cute style will always be appreciated. Yay Monkey!
Courtney
I'm one of the counter people for Robot. East Coast born with a West Coast heart, about two years ago I spontaneously packed a bag and hitched west to Portland and have not looked back. I have an undying love for Morrissey, The Smiths, black metal, vegan food and Jhonen Vasquez. I got involved in the piercing tattoo world when I was 19 living in NY State where I started working as a counter person for shops there. I am in school for graphic design and illustration. I also help educate people on vegan and straight edge culture, a passion of mine for the past 8 years. I also have an Etsy where I sell handmade jewelry! http://wolfbirdstudios.etsy.com
Jason Stewart
Hi, I'm the newest child of robot. I've been tattooing since the summer of 2001. Instead of long walks on the beach, I spend most of my time drawing, tattooing or hanging out with my lovely wife, Jen. I have never been to college, yet I still find the power to not jump off bridges. If I had kids I would like to tell them Santa is real but I hate liars, so no Santa for the kids. I wish to be abducted by aliens, mostly to steal their ride and take us all for a spin. I have been working on a sense of humor... most find it disturbing. Tell you what I do care about though, performing an excellent tattoo for you. I have no personal style but I do like things to look real or nice or both. click here to see Jason's work
Apple
Whats crackalackin?!? The name's Apple, no relation to Chris Martin or Gwyneth Paltrow. I'm originally from Eugene where I worked for High Priestess Piercing and Tattoo as a counter kid for almost 3 years. After living down there for 25 years I decided to take a chance and see what Portland had to offer. Thankfully my extended family at Robot took me in and put up with my entertaining antics. Quite often you'll see me dancing around making odd noises and weird faces, life's too serious. I just wanna have fun.
Once a ROBOT, always a ROBOT
Cookie, aka Autumn Swisher
SQUAWK! The girl could mumble and be completely incoherent, but Robot would not be what it is today without the contributions she made in the early days. In her pursuit of becoming an astronaut, I mean a photographer, she ended up at NY Adorned, and is currently at Body Manipulations in S.F. We miss Cookie! Check out her photography here.
