Chiapas, Mexico amber is 22 million to 26 million years old and comes from the resin of the Hymenaea Leguminoseae tree.
Amber is the fossilized tree resin of a now-extinct tree which grew millions of years ago. Resin is a fragrant antiseptic substance flowing just under the bark and released to protect and seal wounds from broken branches and pests. Over millions of years, the tree resin hardens, entombing plant and animal material that create inclusions. Amber is classified as an organic gem.
